Now is the time at Ampersand for dreaming and scheming. We've got some great plans for this year's internship program. Here is a bit of what we look forward to sharing with this year's interns. Program starts May 20th and runs to to July 15. The applications have started streaming in. Pass it on! Thanks!
This year we can involve our interns in our mushroom cultivation process. Here's Andy with a jar of Oyster mushroom mycelium ready to innoculate a bucket of coffee grounds!
The interior of the Residency Cottage is creatively sculptural and has that raw earth charm. For this year's internship we will enhance it with some finish earth plasters and homemade clay paints.
Amanda and Jessie making a butter colored clay plaster for the inside of the Flicker House in 2012.
Cara makes prickly pear pad goo to stabilize an exterior earthen plaster in 2015.
Imogen sporting the ever popular Ampersand henna tattoo.
4th of July costumes for the parade in Madrid 2012
This temporary shade structure as served us well but now it's time to build a permanent one. We will make it with salvaged wood, and design removable shading to still harvest the winter sun. Then local community artist and Ampersand friend Ken Wolverton will help us make it super fancy and funky.
Enjoy some of these photos from past internships!
After a day of rock work at Passive Solar Architect Mark Chalom's place, he gave us a great presentation on his work and the history of solar architecture of the Southwest. This year we plan to take our 2016 interns to Acoma Pueblo to learn from one of the oldest solar villages in the world!
Here's Christina and Dorothy showing off the tasty cholla buds we harvested and dried in 2013. We are so happy Dorothy will be joining us for the 2016 internship to help lead the way!
At the end of the internship we offer an open house for you all to hear directly from the interns about what they have learned. These events are always amazing and we are so proud of them! It's great to see our interns ready to go back into their worlds and lead the way towards sane living!
