Have you heard about the massive pre-Columbian pueblos concentrated in the Galisteo Basin south of Santa Fe, NM and wondered where they got their start?
Right along the Turquoise Trail we have our own density of earlier sites – small fieldhouses, pueblos, petroglyphs, and artifact scatters – that help tell the story of the beginnings of settlement in the basin, and give clues about the early inhabitants.
Local archaeologist Tamara Stewart will lead a hike through the Ampersand property, where we will visit archaeological sites from this period and discuss the early days in the Galisteo Basin, how settlers utilized and moved across the landscape and how they made a living during this pre-Classic period.
