Here's what Amanda will be presenting at the Solar Fiesta in Albuquerque on Saturday!
.Enjoy a photo tour of the passive solar techniques at Ampersand Sustainable Learning Center in Madrid, New Mexico. Learn about their natural building heating and cooling designs, their fast and slow cooking solar cookers, the large downdraft dehydrator that can dry 60 lb of fruit at a time, their three types of solar water heaters. Most of these low-tech systems have been created on site with salvaged materials.
We made prickly pear fruit juice for our Community Homestead Day. Thanks Oliver!
We are so proud of our interns! And we are pleased to hear how their experience at Ampersand has stayed with them. Here are recent words of wisdom received from Taran Wilkens-Plumley, a 2015 intern...
Ampersand has taught me two fundamental wisdoms. The first that when a true need for something exists a solution will develop, if those involved are willing to listen and actively work towards a goal. The second being that individuals can not exist without the existence of a community, and it is this functioning community that allows individuals to prosper and shine. Thus if you want to enjoy your own personal freedoms and inclinations, you must take care of your community. The word community extends as locally or as globally as one’s perception allows. It could be one’s immediate block or the entirety of the Earth and all of it’s organisms. So in order to care for yourself you must essentially care for your world.
